Get ready to explore the many high quality specialty dessert wines made in specific regions around the world. Specific grape growing and wine making technology has developed and prospered and involves special treatment or techniques in the vineyard or winery. In this course you will learn about Late Harvest and Ice wines, Vin Santos and Sauternes, as well as fortified examples including Sherry, Madeira, and Port. Of course you will get a chance to sample some of the best dessert wines available and learn about matching them with specific foods and desserts!
Note: Must be 21 to register and attend this program.
Instructor: Joe Fiola
Dr. Joseph Fiola, a Viticulture Specialist for the University of Maryland, has over 30 years of academic experience in research and extension in grape growing and winemaking. Dr. Fiola’s R&E program concentrates on variety development and variety testing, including imported varieties, and he conducts small batch winemaking of the research. Joe is a certified wine judge, teaches wine judge training, wine appreciation and health benefits, and coordinates and judges in many commercial and amateur competitions. He has a personal wine cellar of 3000+ bottles and loves to match wine and food!
