The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal runs along the Potomac River from Cumberland, Md., to Georgetown in the District of Columbia. It is a 184 mile-long engineering marvel that has 11 aqueducts, 86 locks, and one tunnel. Its history spans the 19th century and is filled with mishaps, crimes, secrets, and drama. Learn the stories of the people and locations on the C&O Canal including it’s connection with the creation of U.S. Constitution, the solution to a legendary murder on the canal that happened far differently than we are told, and the connection between the canal and the JFK assassination.

Instructor: James Rada
Jim Rada has written many works of historical fiction and non-fiction history, including three novels about the C&O Canal. He has also written a number of articles about the history of and events on the canal. Jim is a full-time freelance writer who has received numerous awards from the Maryland- Delaware-DC Press Association, Associated Press, Maryland State Teachers Association, Society of Professional Journalists, and Community Newspapers Holdings, Inc. for newspaper writing.
