Burnside Bridge is Antietam’s most iconic image. The graceful three-arch stone span, original to its core, has endured war, floods and millions of tourists. But few understand its real role in America’s bloodiest battle. Join Civil War historian and Antietam scholar Dennis Frye for a stroll about the bridge, discovering its hidden mysteries and the falsehoods surrounding its legends. Dennis is renowned for challenging conventional history, and in this case, he will tackle the near impossible – redeeming Burnside’s reputation! Following a morning beside the bridge, we will explore the fields (a newer NPS acquisition) where General Lee’s army faced near extinction.

Please Note: Bring your walking shoes as we expect to walk a total distance of 3 miles, spread throughout the day, over gentle undulating terrain. Lunch is included in your fee. No refunds after close of business on April 30, 2020.
